Tax Planning for Small Businesses Before Year-End
Good tax planning is not about last-minute shortcuts. It is about keeping records clean, reviewing obligations early, and making decisions before deadlines become pressure.
1. Review income and expense records
Start by checking whether sales, purchase bills, bank entries, cash expenses, and owner withdrawals are properly recorded. Missing entries usually create avoidable questions during filing or assessment.
2. Check eligible deductions
Review business expenses such as rent, salaries, professional fees, software subscriptions, bank charges, insurance, repairs, and depreciation. Keep supporting invoices and payment proofs ready.
3. Estimate tax before the year closes
A simple profit estimate helps identify whether advance tax or additional planning is required. Waiting until filing time can create cash-flow strain and interest exposure.
4. Reconcile GST and TDS records
Income tax work becomes easier when GST returns, TDS deductions, books of accounts, and bank statements tell the same story. Monthly reconciliation is far better than a full-year clean-up.
5. Speak before making major decisions
Asset purchases, salary changes, partner withdrawals, loans, and investments can have tax consequences. A short consultation before the transaction is often more useful than repair work later.
