How to Keep Your Business Audit-Ready

Audit readiness is built month by month. When documents, reconciliations, and approvals are maintained regularly, audit work becomes smoother and more reliable.

1. Close books every month

Monthly closing helps catch missing entries early. Review bank balances, cash balances, receivables, payables, expenses, and tax ledgers before the next month starts.

2. Preserve supporting documents

Keep invoices, agreements, payment proofs, salary records, tax challans, and statutory filings organized. Digital folders with clear naming save significant time during review.

3. Reconcile key accounts

Bank accounts, GST ledgers, TDS ledgers, customer balances, supplier balances, and loan accounts should be reconciled regularly. Old differences should not be carried forward without explanation.

4. Document approvals

Major expenses, asset purchases, loans, write-offs, and related-party transactions should have approval records. Documentation protects the business and improves audit clarity.

5. Discuss unusual transactions early

Unusual entries should be discussed before finalization. Early review helps avoid year-end rework and reduces the risk of incorrect classification.
